Writer: Maria Jose AndradeMaria Jose Andrade

We are pleased to announce that Macarena Ocea, one of the artists featured in our Chile Sentido exhibition, will be showcasing her work at the innovative "Waste to Wonder" exhibition alongside artist Natasja van Wyk. In this project, both emerging artists transform everyday soft plastic waste into extraordinary textile artworks and mixed media pieces, inviting us to rethink the concept of waste and contribute to a more sustainable future through creativity.

  • When: Saturday 19/10 – Sunday 01/12

  • Where: Burrinja Cultural Centre, 351 Glenfern Rd, Upwey VIC 3158, Australia58, Australia

Through techniques such as punch needle embroidery, creative recycling, quilting, and the use of colour blocking, Natasja and Macarena create layered works that address pressing personal, environmental, and social issues. By highlighting the urgent challenges posed by plastic waste, "Waste to Wonder" aims to empower community members to become agents of change. Attendees will gain first-hand insight into sustainable practices and the transformative power of creative recycling.

This is a must-attend event for those interested in art, sustainability, and supporting talented artists making a difference. Macarena Ocea has been recognised for her innovative approach to blending traditional techniques with unconventional materials, and now you can admire her work in an exhibition that seeks to inspire greater environmental awareness.
