What brought you to Australia, and how have you experienced your art here?
I came to Australia on a Working Holiday Visa, mainly looking for something different. And the truth is that, since I arrived here, I began to paint self-taught.
Camila found in Australia the space to let her creativity flow. What started as a curiosity turned into a career that continues to expand today.
ART AND CAREER
How would you describe your artistic style or approach?
My artistic style is framed in Pop Art, and my approach manifests through a saturated and vibrant color palette, which I consider crucial for conveying my message. This message seeks to criticize and raise awareness in a society that often sees women more as objects of beauty and inspiration than as figures of strength and resilience in the face of an unequal system. My art is feminist and addresses issues of diversity and social taboos.
Through her vivid colors and compositions, Camila invites us to reflect on how women are perceived in different cultures and how those perceptions need to be transformed.
How would you define the purpose of your works?
My most recent works continue to explore themes of equality and diversity, as seen in my latest exhibition, Empowering Women, which highlighted the concept of strong and powerful women. The choice of a vibrant color palette with a disruptive and sometimes psychedelic approach aims to reinforce the message I want to convey.
Have you been influenced by other artists or artistic movements?
I draw inspiration from Pop Art for its critique of society, and my art seeks to question how women have been objectified and how, in our society, beauty and aesthetics are often valued more than knowledge and intellect.

RECENT PROJECTS
Tell us about your recent projects
My most recent and, undoubtedly, the most significant project to date was the selection of my art to be displayed on a tram that traveled through the streets of Melbourne. Seeing my work on a large scale printed on public transport was an impressive experience. This opportunity was also particularly meaningful for me, as the exhibition's message was centered on the hiring of migrant women, a topic that resonates deeply with me as a migrant woman and one I am proud to convey in our society.
Camila Paz is not only proud of her personal achievements but also of the causes her works represent and how they connect with her own experience as a migrant woman.
THE WORK IN THE CHILE SENTIDO EXHIBITION
What works will you present in this exhibition, and what inspired you to create them?
The piece I will present in this exhibition is inspired by the Chilean tradition of ¨tea time¨, something I truly miss from Chile. I fondly remember the moments when I would gather with my family for tea, enjoy pastries, or simply converse and share after dinner. That’s the essence I wanted to capture in this piece.
In her work, Camila expresses the nostalgia for her homeland, capturing the warmth of her family memories.
Is there a story behind any of the pieces that you'd like to share?
The piece I’m preparing recalls my childhood when I used to sit and knit with my grandmother. Those moments were special to me, and we always ended up sharing tea. She used to bake kuchen with peach or apricot jam, and those moments together filled me with sweetness.
What are your expectations for this exhibition?
My expectations for this exhibition are to continue building community and stay in touch with the talented artists participating. I’d love to collaborate on future projects, as the artist's path can be quite lonely, especially in a foreign country.
REFLECTION AND FUTURE
Looking back on your career, what has been one of the most significant moments for you as an artist?
One of the most significant moments was seeing my art exhibited on a tram. It was very impactful to know that many people in the city had the opportunity to see it.
That achievement was a milestone in her career, not only for the visibility it brought but also for the empowering message it conveyed.

What does it mean to you to participate in this exhibition?
I’m very excited to participate in this exhibition, as it serves as an ideal meeting point to discover the work of other artists. I hope that, for those who continue to come and emigrate in the future, we can establish a solid and stable support network for all of us here, as well as for those who will arrive and the projects that will come.
How important is it for you to connect with the Chilean community in Australia through art?
I’ve loved connecting with other artists through this initiative, as it shows that there are many Chileans creating in this field. It would be very interesting to continue collaborating and exploring opportunities to apply for funding to finance our projects. The most challenging part is balancing a life fully dedicated to art, and I think by working together, we can create more opportunities.
Would you like to continue being part of these gatherings? Do you have any ideas to further strengthen this Chilean-Australian artistic community?
I think we could achieve very interesting things if we maintain this community of artists. It would be great to develop projects that allow us to access grants and scholarships, both from the Chilean government and the Australian one, which values and funds the arts. Additionally, I find it promising to bring together visual artists, musicians, choreographers, and sculptors in a common meeting point, which could yield enriching results.
